Dr. John Siegfred Magalaya Shilinde is a dynamic economist with expertise in international economics, econometrics, and agricultural economics. His work focuses on international agricultural trade, regional integration, and investment, integrating agribusiness and project management. With over a decade of experience in both the public and private sectors.
Dr. Shilinde supports rigorous research, strategic policy work, and impactful partnerships. He also provides agribusiness development advisory services and investment guide preparation. His consultancy proficiency includes comprehensive project evaluation, organizational policy preparation, trade, investment, and feasibility analysis, offering insights into programme effectiveness and policy impacts across Tanzania. He has helped shape trade and industry policy frameworks, drive economic empowerment initiatives, and advance sustainable development strategies. His research and publications cover international agricultural trade, investment, price analysis, and climate change. Currently, his research focuses on export intermediaries, the trade of local direct exports, and climate change, aiming to enhance inclusive agricultural exports.
Dr. Shilinde has held significant positions, including lecturer, research fellow, and consultant, and has been involved in numerous research grants, fellowships, and consultancy assignments. At Moshi Cooperative University, he has taught managerial economics, policy analysis, macroeconomics, international economics, research methodology, and project investment analysis and appraisal, while also holding administrative roles. He has a strong publication record and has presented at various conferences.
Dr. Shilinde earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Dar es Salaam, specializing in International Economics and Econometrics. He holds dual master’s degrees in Agricultural Economics from Sokoine University of Agriculture, Tanzania and the University of Reading, United Kingdom as well as a Bachelor’s degree from Sokoine University. He is a recipient of the Commonwealth Scholarship and the DANIDA PhD Fellowship.
