Name: Mr. Frederick Yona
Title: Senior Research Fellow
Mr. Frederick Yona is currently employed as a Research Fellow at the Economic Research Foundation (ESRF) within the Department of Commissioned Research. He holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Prior to joining ESRF, Mr. Yona served as an Economist specializing in International Trade Policy Analysis at the Bank of Tanzania (BOT) from 2001 to 2007. Following this, he transitioned to the Economic Research Bureau (ERB) at the University of Dar-es-Salaam, where he worked as a Research Fellow from 2007 to 2010, focusing on Teaching, Research, and Consultancy.
Throughout his career, Mr. Yona has also served as an Associate Consultant for various esteemed research institutions, including the Bureau for Industrial Cooperation (BICO) of the University of Dar-es-Salaam, EcomResearch Group Limited, and TanzConsult Limited. His consultancy work has encompassed diverse areas such as socio-economic impact assessment, evaluation studies, baseline surveys, Result-Based Monitoring and Evaluation (RBM&E), Strategic & Business Planning, economic and social appraisals, among others.
During his tenure at ESRF since 2022, Mr. Yona has effectively coordinated and provided technical backstopping to several flagship projects. Noteworthy among these are the Evaluation of the Tanzania Development Vision (TDV) 2025, commissioned by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning in 2023, and the Development of National Anti-Corruption Strategy and Action Plan Phase IV (NACSAP IV), commissioned by the President’s Office-State House (POSH) in the same year. Additionally, he has led projects such as the Diagnostic Study of TANICA and AMIMZA Coffee Processing Factories, commissioned by the Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank (TADB) in 2024, and the Development of the Western Indian Ocean Mangrove Network (WIOMN) Strategic Plan: 2023-2027, commissioned by WWF-Tanzania in 2022.
