Title:   AI and the Future of Research  

 Background and Rationale:  

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a transformative force in nearly every research field, from natural sciences and engineering to social sciences and humanities. AI tools and methodologies enable researchers to analyze large datasets, uncover patterns, make predictions, and accelerate the discovery process in unprecedented ways. However, as AI evolves, it poses both opportunities and challenges in research. Ethical considerations, data privacy, and the skills required to leverage AI effectively are among the emerging concerns that need collective exploration.

This virtual forum aims to bring together experts, practitioners, researchers, and enthusiasts from various disciplines to discuss AI’s role in reshaping research practices, methodologies, and outcomes. The forum will explore current advancements, identify emerging trends, and create a collaborative space for addressing key issues that the intersection of AI and research presents.

Prof. Louis Fourie Prof. has vast experience in Information technology and systems; Development of IS Strategy, Development of a strategic information systems plan, Information systems audit, analysis, and recommendations for improvement, Designing of an information technology platform and information systems, Planning for the future with respect to information technology and systems – newest developments and trends, Technology paradigm forecasting. He will speak on Shaping the Future of Research: From Data to Discovery with AI  
Dina Machuve is the Co-Founder and CTO of DevData Analytics, a data science startup. She was a Senior Lecturer and Researcher at the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology in Arusha, Tanzania. Her research focuses on developing data-driven solutions in agriculture. Currently, she is a member of the Women in Tech and AI programme for empowering African women participation in AI. She also serves on the board of Data Science Africa (DSA), a non-profit organization for training students at African universities in data science and emerging technologies for the development of solutions to African problems. She has a PhD in Information and Communication Science and Engineering, a Master of Science and BSc in Electrical Engineering. She will speak on Future Outlook: AI and Autonomous Research 
Dr. Shadrack Wattai is an Independent Researcher, expert In Artificial Intelligence (AI) and a Reader in Education and Philosophy. His work explores the intersection of technology and human understanding, emphasizing intelligent systems, educational technology, and philosophical perspectives on AI’s role in society. He is also working on innovative projects like Shad.AI, an AI-powered tool designed to help postgraduate research students complete their degrees on time. His research interests include climate adaptation, indigenous knowledge, and digital transformation in educational and decision-making systems. He will speak on Democratizing Knowledge: AI and the Accessibility of Research Tools  
Dr. Nfuka is a seasonal ICT expert with a PhD in Computer and Systems Sciences from Stockholm University, Sweden and a number of years of industrial and academic experience in area of System Analysis/Analytics, IT governance/management and ICT integration in education. Currently, he is an associate research fellow with ESRF and works with the Open University of Tanzania lecturing, researching and providing advisory services in computer science/ICT, and serving as the director of consultancy and outreach services. Prior to that, he was Director, Institute of Educational and Management Technologies overseeing the growth of ICT across Open University of Tanzania which operates digitally and has presence in all regions in the country. He will speak on the Future of Research Methodologies: AI-Driven Approaches and Human-AI Collaboration.
